Slab Pre-Pour Inspection

Assessment of site preparation for concrete slab, verifying that reinforcement bars, waffle pods, and related components are correctly positioned per engineering specifications.

The slab pre-pour inspection is one of the most critical stages in your new home build. Your concrete slab is the foundation that supports the entire structure, and once the concrete is poured, everything beneath it becomes permanently inaccessible. Our inspectors meticulously check every element including steel reinforcement sizing and spacing, waffle pod placement, vapour barriers, plumbing penetrations, and compliance with the approved engineering plans. This thorough assessment ensures your home is built on a foundation that meets all Australian Standards and building code requirements.

Slab Pre-Pour Inspection FAQs

Common questions about slab pre-pour inspections

A slab pre-pour inspection is conducted after the site has been prepared and reinforcement has been placed, but before the concrete is poured. It verifies that all steel reinforcement, waffle pods, vapour barriers, and plumbing penetrations are correctly positioned according to the engineering specifications.

The slab forms the base of your entire home. Once concrete is poured, the reinforcement, plumbing, and vapour barriers are permanently encased and cannot be inspected or corrected. Defects in the slab can lead to cracking, moisture ingress, and structural issues that are extremely costly to repair.

Common defects include incorrect reinforcement spacing or size, missing or displaced waffle pods, inadequate concrete cover over steel, improperly placed vapour barriers, misaligned plumbing penetrations, and non-compliant expansion joints. Our inspectors check every element against the approved engineering plans.

Book the inspection as soon as your builder notifies you the slab preparation is complete and ready for pouring. Timing is critical as builders often schedule the concrete pour shortly after completing preparations. We recommend giving us at least 24 hours notice to arrange the inspection.
