Frame Inspection (Post Slab - Internal and External)

Structural frame assessment for compliance with construction codes and design plans, including evaluation of frame integrity, material use, and installation quality.

The frame stage is widely regarded as one of the most critical construction inspections. The structural frame forms the skeleton of your entire home, and once it is enclosed behind cladding and plasterboard, it becomes permanently hidden. Our inspectors conduct a thorough assessment of every structural element including timber and steel framing, roof trusses, bracing systems, connections and brackets, and tie-down mechanisms. We verify compliance with Australian Standards AS 1684, check all beams and lintels for correct sizing, assess timber quality for splits or defects, and ensure all fasteners and fixings meet engineering specifications. This is also when we check the slab surface condition, termite protection, and site drainage.

Frame Inspection FAQs

Common questions about frame stage inspections

A frame stage inspection covers the entire structural framework of your home including timber or steel framing, roof trusses, bracing, connections, brackets, and tie-downs. We also assess the slab surface for any issues, verify door and window openings, check termite protection measures, and ensure compliance with Australian Standards AS 1684 and the National Construction Codes.

The frame is the skeleton of your home and will be completely hidden once cladding, insulation, and plasterboard are installed. Defects in the frame can compromise the structural integrity of the entire building. Issues like split timber, missing fasteners, or incorrectly positioned bracing are impossible to identify and extremely expensive to fix once the frame is enclosed.

Common frame defects include split or damaged timber, missing or incorrectly installed brackets and tie-downs, inadequate bracing, incorrect stud spacing, improperly sized beams or lintels, and non-compliant connections. We also frequently find issues with slab levelling, missing termite protection, and drainage problems at this stage.

The frame inspection should be booked after the frame, roof trusses, and bracing are installed but before any cladding, insulation, or plasterboard is fitted. Your builder should notify you when the frame stage is complete. Contact us immediately upon receiving this notification as the window for inspection can be short.
